a little joke my daughter made
Something really funny happened with my daughter today, and I just want to share with you guys. First some back ground, my daughter is 3 years old now, and since we speak Shanghainess in home, that’s her first learned language, but she’s going to the preschool here in NJ, so, she can speak both languages now, and some times, she uses one to translate the other one, and this is what happened. I was eating breakfast with her, and my wife was washing something, suddenly she said “na dou is beautiful”, and in shanghainess, na dou means nipples. Me and my wife were shocked, how does she know that word? We never said that to her, did she somehow picked that up when we were talking. So I asked her to say it again, and again she said “na dou is beautiful” I was really dumbfounded, and asked her what does she mean. You can see on her face that’s she’s trying to translate what she said in Chinese to English, then she said “ na dou means outside” We were so relieved, she meant to say “ah dou”, but being a baby, saying words with mixed syllables is common, me and my wife laughed so hard about this misunderstanding, and I hope this little joke will brighten your day too.
